Cable Touch Down Monitoring (2011)
UTEC Survey Mediterranean Srl was requested to provide positioning services for the cable laying operation executed by Prysmian. The first cable was laid in September 2011, Bluestream ROV has been contracted by UTEC Survey Mediterranean Srl to provide touch down monitoring services.
The cable with a length of 35 km was laid starting from the coast of Calabria in Italy. Nearby the “strait of messina” the currents can be as high as two knots. Therefore the powerful Cougar XT was used to monitor the cable touch down process. During the touchdown monitoring the Cougar XT was deployed to a maximum depth of 400 meters. The cable laying was completed successfully in a period of four days.
The work was executed from the Italian cable laying vessel the Giulio Verne.
