Installation support & maintenance of infield and export cables
The offshore wind farms are most often located in shallow waters near the coasts. To protect the infield cables and export cables from fishing activities, high currents and other shipping activities they are often buried by ploughs.
During these laying operations our ROV’s are used to carry out the pre-lay surveys to assess the relief of the seabed. We provide touch down monitoring to asses and mark the touch down point and we conduct post-lay surveys.
Our ROV’s can be equipped with cable tracking/detecting systems like the TSS-350/440 or Innovatum Smartrak/Ultra to detect both HVDC, HVAC and Fibre Optic cables. In combination with profiling sonars these systems enable us:
- to determine the position of the cable in the horizontal plane and to detect any movement of the line since the previous survey;
- to determine the position of the cable in the vertical plane with reference to natural seabed (depth of burial)
- to assess the integrity of the cable and identify debris, the extent of exposures, freespans and dumped or mattress protected areas.
- to assess the condition of the area around the cable and crossings with associated rock dumps.
