During a recent subsea diving operation, Bluestream successfully installed a bellmouth onto a J-tube of a substation foundation at an offshore wind farm off the Dutch coast.
Due to the vessel’s inability to position the diver close to the installation site, a custom solution was required. Our project department devised an innovative approach to transport the heavy bellmouth to the installation point while ensuring the diver’s safety throughout the operation.
Solution: To address the challenge of transporting the bellmouth, a dynamic lift system was employed. This system utilised a buoyant, specially designed air lifting bag to offset the bellmouth's weight, making it easier and safer for the team to maneuver the component into position. The floating support effectively neutralised the bellmouth's weight, reducing the physical strain on the diver and facilitating precise placement. This approach not only enhanced safety but also ensured efficient installation under challenging conditions.
Key Achievements:
The bellmouth plays a crucial role in protecting cables from mechanical damage as well as wear and tear as they are pulled through the J-tube. By ensuring a smooth entry point for the cables, the bellmouth helps maintain the integrity and reliability of the cables over time, especially in harsh offshore conditions.
This project highlights Bluestream’s dedication to delivering accurate and reliable solutions within the offshore energy sector. Our expertise enables us to adapt and tailor operations to meet specific needs effectively.
