Bluestream ROV Project

Reliable ROV support advancing offshore wind projects

Bluestream recently provided essential Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) support for offshore wind foundation installations across four different wind farms, spanning two continents.

These projects involved complex subsea operations, requiring customised solutions to ensure safety, precision, and efficiency.

Challenges

The foundation installations for offshore wind farms presented several technical challenges, including:

  • Monitoring and guiding pre-piling templates during deployment and pile installation.
  • Conducting subsea debris surveys and seabed clearances to ensure clear seabed conditions.
  • Executing contingency operations to address unforeseen equipment issues, such as data connection loss or mechanical failures.

Customised solutions

To meet the demands of these various projects, Bluestream utilized various ROV systems, including the Cougar Compact XT and Panther XTP. These vehicles were equipped to handle diverse tasks such as:

  • Surveying and monitoring activities during monopile and jacket installations.
  • Performing technical support activities, such as releasing stuck equipment, activating pile grippers, and cutting hydraulic lines.
  • Managing the connection and disconnection of key subsea components to support pre-piling campaigns.

By leveraging versatile ROVs and a skilled operational teams, Bluestream delivered effective support for foundation installations, even under challenging offshore conditions.

Key Achievements

  • Improved safety: reduced the reliance on diving operations through ROV interventions.
  • Operational efficiency: effective monitoring and contingency operations helped avoid delays and maintain installation schedules.
  • Adaptability: carried out various tasks aligned with the specific needs of each project.
